What is Diabetes?
Diabetes mellitus in short known as Diabetes. Everyone knows human blood contains glucose. Blood glucose is the main source of energy. When this blood glucose is too high diabetes occurs. Insulin hormone produced by the pancreas helps glucose from the food we eat get into the body cells to be used for energy. Lack of insulin production in the human body makes glucose stay in human blood and doesn’t reach the cells.
What are the different types of Diabetes?
Type 1 and Type 2 are two types of diabetes. There is something called “borderline diabetes”.
Type 1 diabetes don’t produce insulin at all. The body is missing insulin production
Type 2 diabetes is a body that does not respond to the insulin produced very well as it should. In the later stage of this Type 2 body don’t make enough insulin.
Border Line diabetes is also known as prediabetes occurs when blood sugar is higher than normal but not enough to be diagnosed as any of the above diabetic types. In medical language, this may also be referred to as impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance. This condition may lead to type 2 diabetes.
How to read my diabetes level?
A normal healthy individual blood sugar levels when fasting will be between 4.0 to 5.4 mmol/L. After 2 hours of eating it will be up to 7.8 mmol/L.
When compared to the above healthy reading a prediabetes individual blood sugar level may fall between 5.6 to 7.0 mmol/L.
